Researchers in Residence

Empowering displaced & disadvantaged researchers worldwide.

At intO, we believe in the power of research to drive social change and innovation. Our Researcher in Residence programme is a testament to this belief, designed to provide employment, training, and professional support to displaced and disadvantaged researchers globally. This initiative embodies our commitment to social responsibility, cultural equity, and the pursuit of knowledge that transcends borders.

About the Programme

The intO Researcher in Residence programme offers a unique opportunity for researchers who have been displaced due to conflict, economic hardship, or other challenging circumstances. By integrating these talented individuals into our global research network, we aim to harness their unique perspectives and insights, fostering a richer, more inclusive understanding of the world.

The value of employment for refugees goes beyond income.

Employment and Training: We offer paid positions and comprehensive training to our Researchers in Residence, equipping them with the skills and resources needed to excel in their roles.

Professional Support: Our team provides ongoing mentorship and warm support, helping researchers navigate their professional journeys and build meaningful careers.

Global Network: Researchers in Residence become part of intO’s extensive network, connecting with peers and experts from around the world.

Voices Ukraine

Voices Ukraine: A Case Study

One notable initiative supported by the Researchers in Residence programme is the “Voices Ukraine” project. Launched in 2022, this project focused on elevating the voices of those displaced by the war in Ukraine. By employing and training displaced Ukrainian researchers, we were able to gather valuable insights into the refugee experience, fostering greater understanding and empathy.

Our first Researcher in Residence was Tatiana Kirova. Tatiana and her family were refugees from Ukraine and living in Poland. By finding Tatiana’s residency, intO launched the programme’s inaugural research project: Voices Ukraine. Nastasia Formina later joined the project and become a full-time Project Lead at intO.

This work recognises the war in Ukraine as a major regional crisis, and aims to promote social cohesion, empathy and mutual support between Polish and refugee communities.

Over 35 in-depth interviews were conducted, providing a comprehensive view of the challenges and experiences faced by Ukrainian refugees.
